The 2023 Taiwan Design Expo presents “When Mountains and Rivers Start”—a groundbreaking exhibition that recreates New Taipei’s majestic mountains and vast seascapes indoors through giant art installations. Curated by Ling-Li Tseng and designed by Serendipity Studio in partnership with The SELF Ltd., this exhibit has won the prestigious 2024 Red Dot “Best of the Best” award. With digital interactions like the “Rediscovered Explorer,” the exhibit invites visitors to go beyond observing New Taipei’s landscapes to experiencing them as if they were explorers themselves, uncovering the city’s hidden corners and adventurous spirit.
Follow the Rivers and Discover New Taipei’s Secrets
At this year’s Taiwan Design Expo, the theme “When Mountains and Rivers Start” brings people together in New Taipei, encouraging them to explore the city from a fresh perspective. Visitors can follow the paths of the Dahan, Xindian, and Keelung Rivers and discover New Taipei’s deep connection with its waterways.
The interactive “Rediscovered Explorer,” created by IF Plus, offers an immersive experience that lets visitors engage with New Taipei’s unique features in a fun and accessible way. From the magical Taman Mountain forests to legendary fire fishing, ancient fossils, historic shrines, and calming tea traditions, each discovery allows visitors to find their own connections with New Taipei, mapping a personal route through the city’s extraordinary spots.
From Visitor to Part of the Exhibition
With the “Rediscovered Explorer,” each visitor can create a custom journey through the city’s highlights. At the end of the experience, these personalized routes are visualized as part of the exhibit, making visitors feel truly connected to New Taipei. This interactive design transforms guests from mere observers into part of the “When Mountains and Rivers Start” exhibition, becoming part of New Taipei’s evolving story.
